Following on last week's rule of thirds, here is a tip for Lightroom users. When you use the Crop and Straighten Tool in Adobe Lightroom, you can display an Overlay. It displays lines over your image to help you crop it.
The rule of thirds is a composition guide far older than photography. Painters were using it. It is one of the basic composition rule. I know that all rules are meant to be broken, but to do that consciously, you have to learn them first.
You don't need to spend any money to have some handy reflectors. All you need is cardboard and a tape. Take two white cardboard, foamcores or any other white thing that is somewhat thick and tape them together.
